With record-breaking temperatures expected this summer, it's important to keep your home cool and your energy bills lower.

We’ve got some tips to lower the temperature in your home so you can stay cooler all summer without breaking the bank (or a sweat!).

Cover up your windows

Up to 30 percent of unwanted heat comes from your windows. Utilizing shades, curtains and the like can save you up to 7 percent on your bills and lower indoor temperatures by up to 20 degrees.

Plant trees

A few well-placed trees can provide the proper shading to help cool down your house. One of our landscapers can help you pick out the right tree for your yard and find the perfect placement for it.

Ceiling fans

Ceiling fans can make a big difference in cooling down every room in your house. During the summer be sure your fan is running counter-clockwise (when you look up at it). Make sure it is set at a high speed.

Invest in good sheets

Go with lighter linens during the summer. Switch out your sheets for cotton sheets and a lighter blanket. Switch out memory foam pillows. Instead, try using buckwheat pillows — buckwheat hulls have a naturally occurring air space between them, they won’t hold onto your body heat like conventional pillows.

Change your air filters

Air filters should be changed out seasonally. Dirty filters can make your system work harder than it needs to during the summer.
